Eric H. Cline (born September 1, 1960) is an author, historian, archaeologist, and professor of ancient history and archaeology at The George Washington University in Washington DC, where he is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Classical and Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations and the Director of the new GWU Capitol Archaeological Institute. A former Fulbright scholar, Cline received his Ph.D. in Ancient History from the University of Pennsylvania (1991), his M.A. in Near Eastern Languages and Literatures at Yale University (1984), and his B.A. in Classical Archaeology at Dartmouth College (1982). He is an active field archaeologist with 27 seasons of excavation and survey experience in Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Cyprus, Greece, Crete, and the United States, including seven seasons at the site of Megiddo (biblical Armageddon) in Israel, where he is Associate Director (USA). He is also Co-Director of the renewed excavations at Tel Kabri, Israel. A two-time winner of the Biblical Archaeology Society's "Best Popular Book on Archaeology" Award (2001 and 2009) and a popular lecturer, he has also won both national and local teaching awards, including the ‘Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching’ Award from the Archaeological Institute of America (2005). He is the author or editor of ten books and nearly 100 articles, including "The Battles of Armageddon: Megiddo and the Jezreel Valley from the Bronze Age to the Nuclear Age" (2000), "Jerusalem Besieged: From Ancient Canaan to Modern Israel" (2004), "From Eden to Exile: Unraveling Mysteries of the Bible" (2007), and "Biblical Archaeology: A Very Short Introduction" (2009). Dr. Cline has also appeared in numerous television documentaries for the National Geographic Channel, the Discovery Channel, the BBC, PBS, and the History Channel.
