He was the principal architect and author with his brother David Pitt of the Austec Cobol compiler and runtime system which was the first 32-bit COBOL available on Unix 1981-9, and the chief designer and current owner of the Faculti/32 programming platform which supported the Bank of Queensland's telling system from 1994-2001.
He was also Deputy Chairman 2002-2008 of Melbourne Opera Company Ltd, founded in 2002 to bring fullscale opera at affordable prices to the state of Victoria, Australia and is currently still a Director.
