Any novel involving Poland interests me as my husband is first generation Polish American. The Forest of Vanishing Stars shares the amazing story of Polish Jews who escaped Nazi-created ghettos and fled to vast forests. This was a unique and powerful WWII story of survival against incredible odds.

With its strong connections to nature and living off the land, this novel reminded me of Where the Crawdads Sing. I respect the author's extensive research on this and the historical aspects of the novel. The faith elements were also meaningful to me.

Thank you to Gallery Books and NetGalley for the review copy; all thoughts are my own.

Another truly amazing story by historical fiction writer Kristin Harmel! This is the story of Yona, kidnapped as a baby and raised in the woods. It is the story of hundreds of Jews escaping death from the Nazis during the war and hiding out in the vast forests. As usual with her story telling, she made you feel like you were right there with the characters, feeling and reliving everything they went through.

Set in Poland during WWII. A 2 year old is kidnapped from her home in Berlin by an eccentric woman who lives in the forest teaching the child how to survive and thrive. She renames the child Yona. Years later Yona is drawn to aiding Polish Jews survive in hiding and her past will intersect with her present & future in an alarming way. Excellently written.

This is a story from WWII and came from a different perspective, that of a young women who was raised in the woods and helps Jewish people survive the war in the woods of Poland. I liked the book a lot! I listened to it on Audio books. If you like Historical Fiction that is based on true stories, give this a try!
