Wright founded MW Models in 1970. The business, named after Maxwell Wright, was operated from a shop in Henley-on-Thames, and specialised in spare Meccano parts, kits, and instructions. It also provided a mail-order service.In 1972, Wright founded the Henley Society of Meccano Engineers as a forum for his shop customers. The shop was described as "probably the best-known address in the Meccano world". When Airfix ceased Meccano production in the UK in 1979, Wright purchased redundant stock and produced obsolete parts.

In 1997, Wright stepped down as chairman of the Henley society. The models shop sold Meccano kits to enthusiasts worldwide, particularly to people who had Meccano in their childhoods.

In November 2002, Wright announced that a reduction in business meant he could not renew the lease on the shop. The shop finally closed in March 2003. After the commercial premesis closed, Wright continued to run the mail-order business until his retirement.

On 1 September 2007, Wright was awarded the Golden Spanner by the International Society of Meccanomen, in recognition of his promotion of Meccano as a hobby. His wife, Elizabeth, was awarded the Extra Spanner Award during the same ceremony.
