Prof Sarwar came to the United Kingdom in 1973, founded and directed the MET in January of that year and has been actively involved in Islamic Da'wah since early 1962. His support for Jamaat-e-Islami has led to accusations of collaboration with Pakistan in the Bangladesh independence struggle.

In the role of director of the MET, a position which he still holds today, he has devoted his life to the cause of Islam and Islamic education, also having written and published the first English textbook, Beliefs and Teachings, for madrasa students in Britain.

In Chittagong in Bangladesh, Sarwar graduated with Honours in Commerce from the Govt College of Commerce in Chittagong and also received his Masters in Business Management from the University of Dhaka, also in Bangladesh, and is a member of Royal Society of Arts.

Prof Sarwar had taught, while in Bangladesh, Business Management for three years to undergraduates in the City College in Chittagong, Bangladesh.

Sarwar is an internationally recognised Muslim, especially for his 'Beliefs and Teachings', which is used worldwide in Religious Education classes, especially in British schools.
