Great catch, Jayelsee! I find it difficult to follow authors who self publish as I'd rather not have my inbox flooded with newsletters subscriptions. As a result, I've lost touch with some of my favorite authors, including Julianne MacLean. How wonderful to learn that she has continued her Highlander series! Thanks :) |

Another self-publisher and one of my faves, Judith James. The first two books in her "Rakes and Rogues of the Restoration" series have been published previously (with title change for book 2), but I don't believe book 3 was ever published. If you have "Hers at Midnight" (book 3) on your wish list, add the newly-titled "The Highwayman." Book One: Libertine's Kiss :: Judith James (multiple copies available on PBS) Book Two: Soldier of Fortune: The King's Courtesan (Rakes and Rogues of the Restoration) (Volume 2) :: Judith James (previously published as The King's Courtesan) Book Three: The Highwayman (Rakes and Rogues of the Restoration) (Volume 3) :: Judith James (aka Hers at Midnight) Here are a couple of comments from her explaining the series and changes: "What’s New? HQN has graciously returned the North American rights to LIBERTINE’S KISS, THE KING’S COURTESAN, and HERS AT MIDNIGHT, thus allowing me re-launch them as the series they were meant to be. Although Libertine's Kiss and The King's Courtesan are connected stories with recurring characters they were not previously connected as a series by title or covers. I am pleased to release an enhanced version of the King's Courtesan, now titled Soldier of Fortune in the form and length that was originally intended. Readers who enjoyed Libertine's Kiss can find out what happened to Captain Nichols and catch up with Elizabeth, Charlie and Will." Last Edited on: 5/31/15 1:02 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Oh, I've been meaning to try Judith James. Not many people write in that era. Is there another author you would compare her to? Last Edited on: 5/30/15 4:51 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Hmmm, Joanna Bourne, Meredith Duran, Judith Ivory/Judy Cuevas (how I miss her!) maybe? Though different time periods. Closer to that time period maybe Sabrina Jeffries "Deborah Martin" books (recently updated and reissued) and Julia Ross. Isabella Bradford, but she writes about a later period (mid-18th century I think). Judith James books are NOT light romantic comedy. A little dark, very complex plots and characterization, well-researched historical backgrounds that are important to the plot-lines, and somewhat tortured heroes (figuratively and also sometimes literally at least in the past) and strong heroines. Elizabeth Hoyt, yes, Judith James is a bit like her, too. Thanks for recs, I have read several of those (and I do also like light romantic comedy, not always on the dark side, lol.) I'll try some of the ones I haven't read. |

Wow, great list, Cali! I'm definitely going to check them out once I'm settled. Today's my last day of packing (what a nightmare), and I'm on the road to Salem tomorrow. These past 16 years in Ashland have been great, yet it's time to move on.

I do like most of the authors on your lists, and I find myself getting a bit burnt out on the Regency lately, so it's nice to find someone who writes in another time period. I just read the two Breconridge Brothers books by Isabella Bradford, and they were great. |

If you like Isabella Bradford's books, you'd probably like Judith James Restoration period series, although that is about a century earlier than Bradford's books, I think. Somewhere I read someone's description of Restoration England (1660-ish) as similar to the Roaring Twenties or the 1960's--sex, drugs and rock-n-roll. I really liked Isabella Bradford's series, both the Breconridge Brothers and the earlier Wylde Sisters (series are connected to each other by characters). |

Well, ladies, I made it to Salem in one piece! The last few days have been exhausting, and I just now was able to straighten out my cable issues and internet connectivity. Even my blog has been on hold. Although it's only been a few days, I feel like I've been away from you and the forum forever. I was able to find a few titles you may be interested in: The Rogue: A Devil's Duke Novel The MacIain Bride The Groom Wore Plaid |
