Short and sweet, just like Leslie Jordan himself.

Listening to How Y'all Doing? by Leslie Jordan, a memoir in 12 stories, was bittersweet. I was sad because the author died in October in a car accident, but I was happy that he reads this in a warm conversational tone and that he documented many of his life experiences in this and his previous memoir My Trip Down the Pink Carpet.

How Y'all Doing? is perfect to read at this time of year if you need:
- a short book to meet your annual reading goal (200 pages, 4 hours on audio)
- an example of someone who's gone through big challenges and not only survived but thrived
- a reason to laugh if the holiday season is difficult and/or stressful

I'm most familiar with Mr. Jordan from his role as Beverly Leslie on Will & Grace; it was interesting to learn about his other television and stage roles. I also enjoyed learning about his childhood and Southern Baptist roots; his story about hymn singing was one of my favorites in this volume.

Among the laughter and zany events, Mr. Jordan's passion for LGBTQIA+ advocacy is woven into some of the stories. He seems like someone who was grateful for every day and lived each to the fullest, a pretty great example of a life well lived.
