This is a very intense psychological thriller. The last 100 pages are non stop action and it is an excellent read. I will be looking for more books by this author.

All I can say is WOW! This has to be one of the most suspenseful books I've ever read. I couldn't put it down and read all but 30 pages in one day (staying up very late in the night to finish it). While the subject matter of severe child abuse can be disturbing, if you like chilling suspense then you'll enjoy this book.

This is an extremely disturbing story but it's impossible to put down. I read it straight through in 4 hours, finishing it at 1am. Parts made me feel physically uncomfortable and slightly ill but it was a very powerful story!

Thrilling from the first page. Could not put it down. Characters that you will love and characters that you will love to hate. Scary story--great read. Loved this book.

Although the plot was a bit formulaic at times, the intensity of the action and the predicament of the characters kept my interest throughout. I especially liked getting the different viewpoints from the characters such as Chet, Davy and Celia.

Excellent psychological thriller!

A woman works as an art therapist at an alternative school for emotionally disturbed children. It is there that she meets Davy, a young boy who doesn't talk. Why did he stop talking? What secret about his stepfather is he hiding?

The stepfather in this story is VERY scary. The scenes at the end of the book will have you gripping the pages with white-knuckles!!!

To the outside world, 7 year old Davy is a sullen uncommunicative child cared for by a concerned stepfather since the death of his mother. Only he knows the truth behind his silence - a world of unspeakable abuse that has left him traumatized and mute.
This book is scary and a page turner!

Art therapist Celia Griswold works at a center for severely emotionally disturbed children in rural Oregon, encouraging them to express their feelings through drawing. When seven-year-old Davy Boyce, an elective mute, is brought in by his strange, threatening stepfather Chet, Celia senses that something is very wrong with the boy — his behavior is violent and his drawings suggest abuse. After attempting to voice her concerns to Chet, she is overcome with an ever-rising fear, until Chet realizes that Davy's drawings may reveal more truth than is acceptable, and what starts as a simple puzzle in her ordinary life becomes a harrowing and inescapable game of cat and mouse.
