This was a wild ride into psychic phenomena. I love the characters of Finley and her grandmother Eloise, and their haunted dreams that sometimes help people find what was lost. Their visions cannot be controlled and takes them to the brink of danger.
This story had everything going for it. It was a nail biting, anxiety filled suspense story which I couldn't read fast enough.

Finley lives in The Hollows, New York, with her grandmother, Eloise. Finley sees things; Finley sees people. Her grandmother understands; she has a similar gift â or perhaps curse is a more accurate word.
A family is out for a hike. The kids move on ahead while the Dad takes a phone call. A shot rings out and hits the father. The kids run back and the son is also struck. The girl, however, is taken.
Eloise has worked with a detective, Jones Cooper, to find missing people in the past. Eloise's psychic abilities combined with Jones' traditional detective talents have helped to solve missing person mysteries in the past. This time, however, it's Finley's turn to get involved.
This is the second Lisa Unger book that I've read. The first, âBlack Outâ, didn't exactly grab me. This one did. I found that I quickly became interested in the characters, including our investigators and supporting characters and victims. (I never did warm to the antagonists â but then, I wasn't supposed to.) The plot moved along with decent pace; typically, when I had to stop reading, I found myself sneaking in a few more pages. PLUS, there were enough plot twists to have me thinking either âI didn't see that comingâ, or sometimes, âI SHOULD have seen that coming!â (but never âI saw that coming ...â)
Overall, a decent read, and it is a prime example of why Lisa Unger has such a great reputation among mystery, thriller, and suspense writers.
NOTE: I âcheatedâ; I listened to the book read to me on audio. Given the number of jumps in time, in persona, and at least once or twice implied in possession, I learned that this book is more effective in print than on audio â paragraph gaps and font changes tell the story much more effectively than the spoken word in this case. I admit that I would have dropped the book's rating at least 1/2 star had I not been able to follow along in print.

I enjoyed this book for most part. The storyline tended to be confusing at times with the flashbacks and different POV's. I also didn't like how it kept going back to the characters issues. How many times do we have to hear about the mother's drug problems? How many times do we have to hear about the father's infidelity? How many times did we have to hear about Finley's tattoos? Touching these subjects throughout the book once or twice would have been fine. Instead its constantly brought up. The storyline, for most part, was pretty good though. Not sure I really fully understood why the bad guy did what he did but I think I have the jist. I would recommend this book but suggest you don't have high expectations.
