Joey Comeau (born September 26, 1980) is a Canadian writer from Halifax, Nova Scotia. He is best known for writing the text of the webcomic A Softer World and for his novel Lockpick Pornography. His work is difficult to classify by genre. Of his six books, two are comic collections, one is a "genderqueer adventure story," one is an experimental novel told through job application letters, one is a collection of short stories, and one is a YA horror novel.
In 2003 Comeau co-created A Softer World with Emily Horne. His first novel, a "genderqueer adventure story" called Lockpick Pornography, was serialized on the A Softer World site prior to publication in book form by Loose Teeth Press.
Comeau is openly queer, and has stated that he hates the word "Bisexual", explaining "It's not descriptive or useful. It always gives me images of people with bad goatees who wear capes and stuff. I'm just queer."
