"A literary journal is intended to connect writer with reader; the role of the editor is to mediate.""An experienced reader uses the poem as an agent of inquiry. This makes poetry very exciting, unstable, and interactive.""I became intrigued with colour theory. The absurd pronouncements of the Colour Institute, a group that decides what colours are hot each year or season, amused me.""I consider a poem to be a kind of experiment where a number of elements are brought together under test conditions to see how they will interact to create meaning or relevance.""I feel very connected to poets across the country.""I find it exhausting to administer a magazine without an office or paid staff.""I have always been very obsessed with time. He was raised in Calgary. He studied at the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, University of Quebec, Victoria University, and Columbia University.
In 1986, he graduated from the University of Western Ontario, with a Master of Library and Information Science.
He was co-editor of Arc magazine, from 1990 to 1995. He edits The Malahat Review and is poetry editor for Winnipeg's Signature Editions. He co-founded the Poem of the Year Contest in 1996.He was Writer-in-Residence at the Saskatoon Public Library.He lives in Victoria, British Columbia.
