John Metcalf is also the real name of Blind Jack.


John Metcalf, CM (born 12 November 1938) is a Canadian writer, editor and critic.

Born in Carlisle, England he was educated at the University of Bristol, receiving his BA in 1960 and a Certificate in Education in 1961. He moved to Montreal in 1962 to teach high school. In 1970 he became a Canadian citizen. In 2004 he was made a member of the Order of Canada. He currently lives in Ottawa with his wife Myrna Metcalf.
