I tried reading a book from the Key News series by this author but wasn't impressed. I found this book at the library and thought I'd give the author a second chance. Well I'm glad I did. This story is the first in a new series. It is a who-dun-it story but I can see where it will lead into book 2 which I am looking forward to reading.

Ho-Hum, just another romantic suspense who dun it, nothing special about it

I would hope that this is the first and last of the series, but see she has another coming out. This book is about as exciting as watch paint dry or grass grow. Avoid the temptation to read this book. There are too many good mystery books to read, for you to waste your time on this one.

a fast read and decent enough, but rather slow with not a lot of suspense, clues, action, etc...

I really wanted to like this first book in a new series for the author, but the characters were unremarkable, the plot predictable, and the characters uninteresting. Actors, would-be actors, teachers, all added up to a boring let-down of a mystery.

The entire time I was reading this book, I thought it felt like the author was simply trying too hard to make her character seem "hip". All she ended up doing for me was making Piper seem a bit irritating and immature.
If you're going into this book with the expectation that there will be a lot of information about cake decorating, think again. The bakery is almost an afterthought throughout the entire book. Most of the story is actually centered around the cast of a soap opera.
I had the villain pegged way before the story was over, and I had to keep pushing myself to finish it. I didn't really become very attached to any of the characters. I may read book 2 in this series, but only because it's already in my TBR pile. I certainly won't rush to do it though.
