Wow! I just finished reading The Mirage, and all I can say is "Wow!" The only other book I've read by this author was "Bad Monkeys", which was good but weird; this book, on the other hand, was just good -- not weird. I agree with some of the other reviewers that the novel is not overly character driven; the protagonist is pretty 2-dimensional. But I'm still giving this book 5 Stars because the author has done an incredible job of world building; the setting, the history, the parallels between this alternate universe and our own is amazing. Sorry fellow PBS-ers; I'm keeping my copy, so it won't be going back into the swap-a-verse to be shared.
