I'd like to say this was just another one of Allingham's excellent mysteries, but it was written by her husband. However, it does remind me of much of her work. This shouldn't be surprising as I've recently read that her husband collaborated with her---to what extent?---on many of her books.
Written by Phillip Youngman Carter, Margery Allingham's husband this is pretty much a Cold War spy story. Although it lacks the fantastic elements of Allingham's later books it has the eccentrics which made her books such great fun. Carter also writes a pretty good Campion.

But when it becomes evident that this is a matter of highest state security the inimitable Mr. Campion takes a hand.
