Great first book in this series, looking forward to all of the ones to come. Cozy, fun and if you love cats, marvelous. Since I have a Maine Coon, it's especially nice, since he's also a rescue.

A cute, cozy, delightful light mystery that you will love to pick up and read to relax. I have a dog who I love, but Diesel is one great cat.

I love these books with the Maine Coon Cat. The plots are interesting and the characters are believable and down home. No lurid sex scenes mar the plot but there is a gentle romantic theme to most.

I barely finished this book. For some reason, I just found it dull. I didn't think the main character was very exciting (though I liked his cat), and I just didn't really care what happened to him. The plotting was ok, but not very fast paced. I know I could not write a book this well, but I still found it dull.

Starts a little slower than I like. Dean James writing as Miranda James starts a new series set in Mississippi. The info about Diesel, the Maine Coon cat, kept me reading.

Murder Past Due is an engaging, albeit somewhat typical cozy. Retired librarian and widower Charlie Harris - and his sidekick cat Diesel - are very likeble. However I've had a hard time reconciling that Charlie is male. Sure there are many real and fictional kind, sensitive, bright and helpful men out there but as written, the Charlie character would be much more believeable as a woman.

I generally love mysteries with cats, but this author plods along. I hope the next book in the series is a little better than this one.

Meet Diesel, a Main coon cat who walks on a leash and will steal your heart......add his human, librarian turned sleuth Charlie Harris and a murder to solve, you have a great beginning for a new cozy series.....

Very nice cozy with mostly believable characters. Charlie is a very enjoyable, comfortable companion to spend the evening with and Diesel is a delightful feline who acts like a cat. My complaint is with Charlies interaction with Deputy Berry. He too apologetic about 'interfering' with the investigation and Deputy Berry's erratic attitude pulled me out of the narrative several times. I look forward to reading more of this series and this author.

If you're looking for a cozy, no blood, guts or gore - this might be the one for you.

There's a cat in the stacks...and he makes the purr-fect partner for a librarian-turned-sleuth. Everyone in Athena, Mississippi, knows librarian Charlie Harris -- and his Maine coon cat named Diesel that he walks on a leash. They also know his former classmate-turned-famous bestselling novelist, Godfrey Priest. But someone in Athena took Godfrey off the bestseller lists -- permanently, and with extreme prejudice. Now, Charlie and Diesel must browse through the history section of the town's past to find a killer.

First installment in the 'Cat in the Stacks' series. I enjoyed a male protagonist for a change. A home town boy, turned successful writer, comes back for an event in his honor and to donate his papers to his alma mater. Unfortunately, he never makes it to the reception having been murdered in his hotel room. Full of surprises to the very end - an enjoyable cozy read!

Good book- I liked it a lot and read it very quickly. Loads of suspects and motives and a few secrets too. I like how the sleuth was involved enough to have a stake in finding the killer. I definitely will read more from this series!

*there was one thing about the plot that annoyed me slightly (which I won't say because I don't want to spoil it for anyone)

Supposedly a "cozy" mystery. Even though the writing is a bit pretentious, it is a very quick read. However, I expected more cat involvement from a "cat mystery". The cat here only serves as an accompaniment to the amateur sleuth and his friends. None of the typical "cat finding an important clue" behavior you would expect from these kind of books. And I didn't like any of the main characters. So-so.

Good start to this new series.
