I gave this book a C+ on my personal book rating scale. What can I say about this book. Well, I think it suffers from what other anthologies suffer from...too little pages not enough story.
The JD Robb story was about 90 pages long. I felt the story was good and complete. Perhaps it is because I have read so many other Eve and Roarke books that the lack of background on the characters was ok with me.
Kinsman by Susan Krinard was perhaps the weakest of the stories. at 87 pages the story introduces several alien species, different planets and a while new galaxy and I just felt that there was not enough background to allow the reader to stay connected with all the different species and what their capabilities were. I have noticed that there is a full novel on the Kinsmen..I might try it to see if Krinard's world makes more sense.
Maggie Shayne's story was not bad but it did leave some unaswered questions.
Laurell K Hamilton....what can I say about her other then when you get to put a short story in an anthology it should be an actual short story and not two chapters or so from an upcoming book.

An excellent anthology to whet your appetite for these four terrific writers--J.D. Robb, Laurell K. Hamilton, Susan Krinard, and Maggie Shayne. Because of the anthology format, these paranormal/futuristic love stories are relatively brief, but do give you a taste that will leave you wanting more! Great for a "palate cleanser" when you're in between books, or perfect for bringing on a trip!

I was very excited when I happened upon this book: I like Nora Roberts (aka J. D. Robb) and Maggie Shayne, and I've been wanting to read Laurell K. Hamilton for a while.

The best story in the book was by Susan Kirnard, who I'd never heard of. I had some problems with the 5 kids in 5 years agreement (NOT good for woman's body, I'm sorry, and means no breast feeding, also bad. :P), but otherwise it was a good tale. Not the best I've read, but I enjoyed it.

Immortality...had its points, but something about the story grated on me. I think it was how much of an ass they had both been, but somehow....poof neither was one now. The ending was appropriate, but pat. I dunno...it didn't strike me as that good of a story, I just didn't manage to root for the lead characters. (Though the villain was a good villain. Ooh..was she evil!). I've read some Maggie Shayne but was beginning to wonder how much more I wanted to read. This was nice, in that it isn't the same repetative formula that I was spotting in her vampire romances, but I still wasn't that fond of it.

Interlude by J. D. Robb wasn't bad. I enjoyed; I don't think it's quite up to Robert's usual level, but I'm used to her novels. I am still interested in reading the series that Eve is the main character. Eve has a lot of potential as a character, and it was just beginning to show in this short story. Since characters are one of the reasons I enjoy Robert's, I'm hoping Eve fills her potential in the longer books.

And...then there is Hamilton. I was very excited to get a story by her, on Vampires. I was unimpressed. For one thing, it's a bloody novel excerpt, and the plot that the tale starts with (captured weres) isn't even resolved by the end. The ending sort of resolves some of it, then says "Come read the long book." And it wasn't that good. I'm not into S&M, which seemed to be most of the book. And what the ()*#$@ are "marks"? They seem to be a huge part of the book, and I'm sure are explained earlier in the Anita Blake series, but weren't all that great here There was some exposition tossed in to explain they are holes in the aura, but why these two fill'm..I dunno. I feel like I came in in the middle, watched a bunch of gorey sex, and then left in the middle. I might try a full length Anita Blake, but am not so excited about it. (NOTE: Since I read this book, I read Guilty Pleasures. I won't be bothering with another of hers).

So...despite an impressive list of authors, I was unimpressed with this collection of stories.

I enjoyed the short story by Laurell K. Hamilton and immediately went out and bought the book that this piece is in. I am not a big J.D. Robb fan so I didn't get into the sotry and the other two stories did nothing for me.

Review pertains to Interlude In Death ONLY!!!

Not as in depth or exciting as some of the others but I wasn't expecting it to be because this was a short story. I did enjoy the story taking place off planet so the change in scenery was nice and the story was good and interesting.

This book contains four paranormal stories. The first story is INTERLUDE IN TIME by J.D. Robb. This is part of her Eve Dallas futuristic cop series and the only story in the book that I liked. If I were to rate the book based only on this story, I'd give it 4.5 stars.

KINSMAN by Susan Krinard is next. I had a hard time following the whole story between aliens and humans. I don't like stories where I don't know how to pronounce the characters names.

IMMORTALITY by Maggie Shayne has a suicidal witch who is rescued by a man who believes she looks just like his dead wife. Kind of depressing.

MAGIC LIKE HEAT ACROSS MY SKIN by Laurell K. Hamilton is just an excerpt from her book "Narcissus in Chains". What a waste of time.

Overall, I'd rate this anthology 2.5 Stars.

This includes JD Robb's (aka Nora Roberts) Interlude in Death. It falls in the In Death series between Betrayal in Death and Seduction in Death.

Sci-fi romance anthologies from authors I normally like, but the short story format just doesn't give the time and space to develop good characters and stories. The stories by Laurell K Hamilton and J.D. Robb are less enjoyable if you haven't read previous novels in their respective series.

I love powerful Eve Dallas and how the complex crimes are solved. If you don't wanna bite her husband, don't read these books! Not only in books, but also anthologies with other authors like this book. Nora Robert's best writing is as JD Robb in this "In Death" series of some 30 stories to date. I collect all of the JD Robb books, but skip the Roberts, whose stories are not as tight as those about Lt. Eve Dallas - ass kicker!

Laurell K. Hamilton doesn't offer up a new short story, but rather slightly revises that beginning chapters of Narcissus in Chains, as noted in the copyright page of the book. The same holds true for the stories by Susan Krinard-excerpt from The Secret of the Wolf, and Maggie shayne's excerpt from The Gingerbread Man. J.D. Robb, at least, expanded on this 2001 story into her 2006 novel of the same name, Interlude in Death.
If you're looking for new material from these authors-SKIP THIS BOOK!

This one is a little weird! I love J.D. Robb as a rule, and her portion of this trilogy is great. I'm just not sold on the other two. It's called Out of This World because it is...literally. The stories are fantasies (aren't all romance novels?) but I'm sure some will enjoy it tremendously. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

It was ok. I didn't finish the Krinard story. I liked Maggie Shayne and even Hamilton was okay, with less sex and more story than usual.
