I'm in the minority, but I did not enjoy this book. I found it boring, especially the chapters written by James. He got sidetracked a lot, delving more into history than this book required. That they are journalists by trade came through loud and clear in their writing styles. Had they spent more time on the actual food, I think this book would be much more appealing. Of course, there were interesting sections, but even when writing about their quests for items within that 100 mile radius, off he went in other tangents that had me skimming and flipping pages.

A thoroughly engaging memoir written by a Canadian couple - he writes one chapter, she writes the next - who challenge themselves to eat only locally produced food (they agree that this meed within 100 miles of their home) for a year. They write about the difficulties they encounter, and their unexpected triumphs, with such good humor that more than once I found myself wishing I was a friend invited to share a meal with them!
