Into this unforgettable chronicle of America's soul shattering struggle for liberty, Kenneth Roberts has woven a poignant and unusual romance, a breathless tale gloriously performed...his finest book.
-NEW YORK POST-
A masterpiece of Americana that throws new light on American History.
This was one of my favorite books ever! The enigmatic Benedict Arnold inspires the inexperienced continental army to great feats and perhaps protects the hopes of the emerging nation.
Yes, you heard it, praise for Arnold. Peter and Nathan Merrill come of age during this turbulent time and join the Continental Army under Steven Nason and Cap'n Huff in order to prove their loyalty to their neighbors and the cause. Rabble in Arms is an account of the northern army and its efforts to keep the redcoats from dividing the colonies in half and thus extinguishing the 'rebellion'. It's primarily written as a first person narrative from Peter Merrill and his experiences in the service of the Continental Army as a scout for Arnold.
You'll remember Steven and Cap'n Huff from the equally impressive novel Arundel and you'll meet a few other characters from that tale in Rabble in Arms too. It's amazing what a person can endure when hope, love and the belief in a cause are strong enough. Truly a tale of our American independence and it's unique birth from a group of rabble.
This is the one! Greatest historic fiction I've ever read. The story of Benedict Arnold and his heroic actions against the British in the American Revolution.
This sequel to Arundal continues the saga of Arnold as he now marches south from Quebec through Lakes Champlain and Lake George towards Albany. The chief protagonist is again from Arundel and the guides from the former story continue their roles. There is another love interest throughout, but this merely provides a distraction and subplot to retain interest.
