This was an excellent book. I enjoyed it much more than the Seducer. There is a spark between the hero and heroine from the beginning, but they are at obvious odds with eachother. Although the circumstances that bring them together are not as memorable, the story between them takes over. A twist brings in the protagonists with a surprise at the end. I enjoyed this and recommend it.

Very amusing historical/light thriller that makes good light reading.

Viscount Laclere, has enough to worry about without the complication of having to track down his new ward, the American Bianca Kenwood. His siblings court scandal so that it's all he can do to keep the family's standing socially and financially. He tries to be proper, and yet here he is in a gaming establishment watching a singer perform and hoping to find out where she has hidden Bianca. But the singer has not abducted Bianca--she is Bianca. Having landed in Liverpool, Bianca, independent and resourceful, eludes the arranged escort and sets out on her own because she has no intention of allowing an unknown viscount to rule her life until she attains her majority. Music is her passion, and her plan is to become a great opera singer. But such an occupation is not proper for a young lady, and Vergil and Bianca seem destined to be at odds.

From the back cover

Vergil Duclairc was a man used to getting his way. And as the newly appointed guardian of Miss Bianca Kenwood, he was determined to find her and bring her back to live with his family. The last thing he expected was to discover his new ward scandalously costumed and employed as a theatrical singer. Bianca had no interest in giving up her independence, but there was something compelling about this handsome and brooding viscount who seemed to think he owned her and her inheritance. As she allows herself to be swept back to his country estate, she discovers that Vergil is a man of secrets and sensuality, and that she is not immune to his inscrutable charmnor is he to hers. Suddenly, in a moment that would change everything, they are thrust into a world of dangerous intrigue, where enemies abound and only the passion that ignites between them can save them-or prove their glorious undoing
