Samuel ("Sam") Green is the current Poet Laureate of the State of Washington. Green is the author of ten poetry collections, including The Grace of Necessity, which won the 2008 Washington State Book Award for Poetry.

Green has taught at Seattle University and is active with the Skagit River Poetry Festival. For nearly 30 years Green has served as editor of Brooding Heron Press.

Green lives on Waldron Island, Washington.
