I'm truly surprised that the author, Thomas Lakeman, is not more well-known and widely read. I've recently read "Shadow Catchers," his debut novel, and "Chillwater Cove," the second in the series, and loved them both. The characters, both law enforcement and villains, are three-dimensional and well-drawn; they are complex and flawed human beings, not superheroes or monsters. The plots abound with unexpected twists and turns, the swift pacing keeps you turning pages, and the characters continue to occupy your mind after you've finished the books. I'll be watching for the third entry to appear in paperback!

This was a great thriller! FBI Special Agent Mike Yeager has travelled to Nevada to "try to figure things out" when he is put on administrative leave from the FBI. But as soon as he arrives in town, Mike finds himself deeply involved in searching for little Cassandra, grand-daughter of Dyer County Sheriff Archer. Agent Yeager quickly discovers that Dyer County is hiding a lot of secrets.
