Anything written by Shelby Foote is always top-notch, and this book is no exception. I love the way he uses different perspectives from different soldiers and the way he is able to see both sides of this horrific conflict. This is on my shelf for reading again and again!

Anyone who wishes to hear the voice of soldiers who hurry up and wait to then run screaming into hot steel sent at them by some other soldiers who hurried up and waited to see them coming should enjoy this excellent story of a tide turning battle. Awareness that your family members of the past were there to be part of the story really bring homes the horror of it all.

A wonderful novel recreating the famed battle of Shiloh. An eminent writer combines the scholarship of the historian. It doesn't get much better than this.
