This book was compared to Tony Hillerman's writing, but I found this mystery to be much more enjoyable. It details the investigation conducted by a team made up of one FBI agent and a BIA agent. Both agents are Native Americans, the FBI agent beig a Modoc woman. The BIA agent is Comanche. Underlying the investigation is their failed relationship. The investigation itself requires them to study the Oneida story of creation. The combination of these factors pulls you along and sinks you in to the mystery, which is also intriguing. The author's background in law enforcement is evident in the precise details of an investigation. I could not put it down.

Oh Rats! I've now found another mystery author who writes like-able and believe-able characters. Twisty plot, scary villains... or maybe scary plot, twisty villains.
The 'Rats' part comes in because now I want to read the rest of the Emmett Parker and Anna Turnipseed books.

From back cover: On the New York reservation of the Oneida, FBI Special Agent Anna Turnipseed and Bureau of Indian Affairs Investigator Emmett Parker find the broken body of a community elder who seems to have fallen out of the sky--much like the woman in the Oneida creation myth. But it's a land dispute that's taken her life--and threatening to ground Turnipseed and Parker in facts far stranger than fiction.
