Absolutely loved it. I could not put it down. It's really nice to read a well-written, interesting novel. My son always asks me to rate the books I'm reading and I gave this one a definite 10. If it has one drawback, it's that I figured it out by the time I was halfway through it. But that didn't keep me from enjoying it.
This is an average mystery novel. The plot was interesting and certainly kept me turning pages, but it was overall predictable... I liked the characters and found them to be sympathetic as well. The real downside of this novel was the writing style. It has been probably 8 years since I last read a Margolin novel, and I did not remember the style being so simplistic, with errors in verb tense. While the short sentences did set the book at a faster pace, sometimes it completely pulled me out of the story to marvel at how a book at such a low-reading level was targeted for adults.
This was definitely for a mature audience, as there were some downright creepy scenes. The dialogue was fairly believable and there were a few lines that made me laugh out loud. I liked Joshua's character and his occupation as a writer added a fun twist to the book.
Basically, this is a quick, vacation-read type of mystery. Margolin may not be my favorite mystery writer, but he is a consistent choice for a fun way to pass the time.

another great book by phiilpi margolin with the portland area as the background. A girls friend and father are brutually slain and she is next, but she manages to escape who she believes the killer to be, but it turns out to be someone else.
Good mystery. Ashley Spencer gets away from a serial killer who has already killed her father and the girlfriend spending the night. When Ashley's mother puts her in a private school, they find the serial killer has not forgotten Ashley. Interesting read.
Seventeen year old Ashley Spencer learne what true horrow was the night a serial killer invader her home and brutally murdered her father and her best friend. But the terror did not end there. Fans of Margolin know how he can weave a story with a ending almost impossible to figure out. Highly enjoyable.
