Sophie Littlefield is an American author of mystery novels, short stories and young adult fiction. Her debut novel, "A Bad Day for Sorry", was published by St. Martin’s Press/Thomas Dunne Books in August 2009. The book chronicles Stella Hardesty, a vigilante sewing machine shop owner who helps women deal with their abusive husbands and boyfriends. Littlefield's second novel featuring Stella Hardesty, "A Bad Day for Pretty", will be published in June 2010. Littlefield's short story, “A Taste for It” was a finalist for the 2009 Derringer Award. Littlefield has also been contracted by Delacorte Press to write a young adult series, beginning with "Banished," the story of an ostracized girl from a small town who discovers she is heir to an ancient legacy and the powers that come with it. In addition to her fiction work, Littlefield co-wrote a book with William M. Wiecek about Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., which was published in 2005 . Littlefield is a member of Sisters in Crime, Mystery Writers of America, International Thriller Writers and is president of the San Francisco chapter of the Romance Writers of America, following Karin Tabke in the position. According to the author’s website, Littlefield grew up in central Missouri, lived in Chicago for 10 years and now resides in Northern California with her husband and children.
