Steven M. Alper is a music composer, primarily for the theatre, as well as an author. He wrote and orchestrated the score for the musical The Immigrant, for which he nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Orchestrations.

Alper played in the orchestra in several off-Broadway shows, including The No-Frills Revue, Godspell, and Johnny Pye and the Fool-Killer. He also provided instrumental music for Mark St. Germain's The Gifts of the Magi.
