This book is HILARIOUS!!!! Barbara Johnson, the author, while writing this book, was battling cancer, or just recovering from it, can't remember exactly, I'm sorry, but, her outlook on life is so WONDERFL AND POSITIVE it is no doubt why she beat the cancer! Each little short story she writes in this book applies to life in some way, shape or form, and her outlook is absolutely hilarious! It's almost as if she is mocking some situations in life. And, in my opinion, you have to do that in life in order to get through it! If you don't, it can be SO serious. By taking the time to laugh a LOT, laughter ca be te BEST medication there is! Enjoy ALL the laughter in this book and her outlook on life in general! You'll love her!!

This is a MUST HAVE book. It is full of fun humorous snippits from Barbara's books and other cartoons and quotes she has collected into this book. I have read it numerous times and given several as gifts. Give yourself and/or someone else a dose of healthy belly laughs.
Barbara Johnson is one cool lady - she has been thru hell and back and lived to tell the tale.....with humor and grace.

This is really two books in one the other book is Splashes of Joy in the Cesspools of Life. Both are funny and very insperational. Barbara Johnson has a way of helping you look at things in a different light. She give some very good advice, book is quite funny, but right on the mark for heading thru life's troubles that face us. Lovesd the book.
Good book, hit home a few times.
There was quite a few happy thoughts that are helping me get through a difficult period in life right now. It seems like I always pick up one of Barbara Johnson's books right when I need it the most. This book continues on with the rough story of the hardships her family went through and how she has found joy through the troubled time ... and helps others with this also through her Spatula ministry. I googled her name to see how she's doing now ... and discovered she died of cancer in July of this year ... 3 years after her husband, Bill had passed away.

Such a funny,inspiring book!
Barbara Johnson lost one son to war, and one homosexual son in a car accident, suffers from diabetes and supported a husband through recovery from another horrible car accident and the loss of his sight. Her writing is humorous and upbeat! I don't agree with the "Christianized" theory that homosexuals must be deprogrammed (since there are at least two in my extended family-I get touchy about that! They are just my cousins-not aliens or God forsaken!) But she does cover the anger at God for the loss of a loved one very well and with deep honesty. I would recommend this book to someone who is experiencing an extended depression after the death of a loved one! Dawn
