An outstanding TNG novel. Even more than in Metamorphosis, Jean Lorrah shows she can get inside the character of Data and make his journey of growth compelling. As for Tasha Yar...the next time I saw "Skin of Evil", I felt more affected than ever before, knowing the rest of the crew was truly robbed of a friend.
The plot is intricate and character-driven, and covers a lot of ground over Tasha's life and Starfleet career, with the difficulties of the Prime Directive always looming. Not by-the-numbers, not to be missed.

pretty good!

Should I give away the ending?? (If you don't want to know it, don't read the rest of this.)

Tasha Yar dies. :( :(

This is my favorite ST:TNG book - mainly because it features Tasha Yar. This book was published long before the episode "Legacy" that introduced her sister Ishara with a very different back story. I prefer Lorrah's take on Tasha's history to the episode's.
