I love this series. The plots are great, the men dreamy, the women strong. Everything seems wonderful. But this one does get a little dark with the theme of abuse, which I can't stand. But then when I read a romance, I don't want it to depress me.
Janet Chapman is a modern day Wizard herself. Time travel, magic, alpha males, with accents ( to us Americans ) and old world ways and ideas but somehow more aware of a modern woman's needs than a modern man. Throw in the occasional villain or mystical creature. Romance, hot steamy sex.. And you have the Pine Creek Highlander series.
The only thing wrong with these books is the highlanders get old to fast and the books are to few... I have never devoured a series so fast.
"Tempting the Highlander" is the 4th book in Janet Chapman's Pine Creek Highlander series. I highly recommend reading the series in order, as the entire family's story unfolds and characters from previous books are mentioned throughout. Janet Chapman is one of my favorite romance authors. Her books always leave me with a smile on my face. After reading one of her Pine Creek books, I always wish that I could be part of the MacKeage clan. In this book, the focus is on Robbie MacBain (a guardian) and his time-travel adventures to save his extended family. Caught up in the magic that surrounds Pine Creek is Catherine, a woman on the run from her abusive ex-husband with her two small children. Catherine and her children come to live and work as his housekeeper in Robbie MacBain's house with his four male teenage foster children. Robbie quickly grows to love Catherine but Catherine has to let go of her troubled past, along with her fears, before she can commit to a relationship with Robbie.
The relationships among the characters are quite tender, particularly the growing friendships between the foster boys and Catherine's children. I highly recommend this book to anybody who enjoys paranormal romance.
It's been 35 years since the wizard Daar cast a spell that transported med- ieval warriors from the MacKeage and MacBain clans into modern-day Maine. Robbie MacBain was born in the modern age, but his special gifts made him guardian of both clans. Despite being single, Robbie has become a foster parent to four troubled teenage boys.
After learning about her abusive ex-husband's release from prison, Catherine Daniels takes her two children and flees. When Robbie catches her swiping some of his eggs, he makes her a deal: Take over his rambunctious household and he'll offer her protection.
Soon Robbie has a much bigger problem. According to Daar, unless Robbie goes back in time and snatches a special book of spells, all of the original time travelers will unwittingly be returned to the past. It will take the assistance of both a guardian snow owl and a special modern woman for Robbie to succeed.
Robbie MacBain has grown into a sexy and wonderful man in Chapman's newest installment of tales of the time-traveling Scotsmen. Chapman breathes such life and warmth into her characters, each story is impossible to put down.
"Catherine Daniels arrives in Pine Creek, Maine, at just the right time for Robbie MacBain. She is on the run from her ex-husband, and Robbie is a sexy, single foster parent who needs a housekeeper while he travels back in time to medieval Scotland. Unbeknownst to Catherine, Robbie's looking for a book of spells to save the future of his family...and little did he expect to find a burning passion in Catherine's arms. Can Robbie seal his family's fate while enticing Catherine to follow him and her own heart wherever love will take them?"
