Not your normal coming of age story--or is it? Justin is a teen who sucks his thumb, much to the dismay of his aging jock father, who tries everything. Finally, hypnosis works--or at least transfers Justin's behavior to other obsessiosn, from sex to Mormonism. Funny and cynical and hip.

I loved this book! The movie was based on a small section of this book...a lot more happens in the book. Walter Kirn's writing is witty, funny, and very enjoyable. Highly recommended.
I read halfway through this book and finally gave up because it was so self-indulgent.
Funny, occasionally poignant and just a little disturbing. Fascinating stuff, I enjoyed it.
Haven't read it but have heard great things!
