I adore David Rosenfelt's Andy Carpenter's "Tara" series with his quick wit that sometimes makes me laugh out loud. He writes good stand-alones also, and though I miss his comic personality, they're usually pretty suspensfull thrillers. I liked this one, but it was not quite up to par with the previous books. That being said, I do recommend this author, whatever he writes!

I am a huge David Rosenfelt fan and at this point have lost count of how many of his books I have read. The majority of reviews which I have given for his books have been nothing but rave reviews. I recently finished "Without Warning" and enjoyed it very much although I do not feel that it is one of his best. I enjoyed his typical wit and sense of humor throughout the book, yet I have to say I missed his beloved Tara playing a role in the storyline! Still well worth reading!
Okay, finally, seems it's been quite a while since Rosenfelt has had a winner other than the Andy Carpenter series. I looked back and I've given a couple of his books only a 1 star or 2 star rating and they have been stand alones but this one is worth the time to read.
The characters are good and you can relate to them(don't know if they will be on-going characters) but the story is different than what you usually expect, I found it easy to read, easy to stick with it wanting to turn the pages a little faster, so I think he has a winner here.

The author, David Rosenfelt, has written a string of incredibly funny and great mystery/thrillers. Some of them are part of the Andy Carpenter series, while others are stand alone stories.
This one is a standalone that seems weak; I dont have to have hilarious but a book that is ho-hum AND lacking humor is a real disappointment. Police chief Jake Robbins and his love interest, Katie Sanford, seemed one-dimensional and boring.
And dont get me started about Jakes grumbling about being a war hero. The main characters didnt seem to breathe. Others have outlined the plot and I wont repeat it here because I thought the plot was beyond fantastic (and not in a good way).
The reader, Jeff Steitzer, seemed overly-dramatic in this reading. However, the reader did a marvelous job of delineating characters through his range of voices.
I hate to abandon a book after I start it and that is the only reason I finished this book.

I loved this book, I could not turn the pages fast enough. I have been a bit disappointed with some of the Tara books, although the last one I read was back to his standards. But this book is wonderful. I wish the characters would become part of a series.
First time I was not riveted by the plot of one of David Rosenfelt's books. This one is a stand-alone but lacks the wit and interesting plot of the Andy Carpenter series. I did not even finish, just skipped to the end to read the denouement. Not my cup of tea!
Another riveting well written thriller by Rosenfelt! Fast paced, good characters. ...fabulous!
