Silly in spots but enjoyable beach read. Peggy as the heroine is likeable and the supporting characters are interesting as well. The ghostie was my favorite character. He adds humor and is likeable; however he isn't given much to do in the story. His constant questions about modern life and bantering reminded me of the Hollywood movie "Kate & Leopold" with Meg Ryan & Hugh Jackman. The schtick started to feel overused. It also wasn't explained why the ghostie couldn't travel through walls. Instead Peggy was always opening doors and pushing out chairs for him. Along with talking out loud to him, he seemed more like her imaginary friend than a ghost. I'm hoping he gets a more active role and some more active abilities in the sequels. The author did a great job in introducing characters and establishing the setting. I do wish the mystery had been better incorporated into the story with the characters and that motives and scenarios had been more clearly laid out. The ending seemed very disjunct and rather abrupt. I was left with more questions after the mystery was solved than I had leading up to it. Which was disappointing. Hopefully the mystery takes center stage in the next book and the characters get bigger roles.

What you would do if a handsome 14th century ghost followed you home to Vermont from a buying trip to Scotland? Peggy buys an ancient shawl that seems to have come with an extra bonus and she can't shake him off. When a mystery and a body show up in her all things ScotShop, he decides she needs his help and his skills in defending her. I loved this book and the characters in it.
Peggy owns a Scot Shop in Vermont and visits Scotland to purchase inventory to sell in her shop and finds some inventory has surprises attached. This will be one of my top new series to look forward to many more to come. It held my interest from page 1 and is a true cozy read that I couldn't put down. Truly enjoyed meeting all the characters in this book including Dirk the 14th Century Scotsman.
I could use this review with at least 6 Cozy Mysteries that I've read in the last year. The plot is almost a sub-genre with publishers. Stubborn female lead thinks it's smart to ask questions of everyone until she becomes a target of the killer much to the consternation of the emotionally broken police officer who is part of a love triangle as she lusts after both the officer and the sexy male creative genius in town.
