This is the thirteenth, and final, book in The Hallows series. This has been one of my favorite urban fantasy series. There were a couple books mid series that got a bit slow, but then the series picked up again and was just as wonderful as when it started. I loved this book, it was just an absolutely perfect ending for this series. I admit I am pretty sad this series is over, but it ended beautifully.

Cormel wants Rachel to figure out how to find his soul and return it to his body; he will stop at nothing to coerce Rachel to do this. When Cromel tries to kill Ivy in an attempt to force Rachels hand Rachel strikes a deal with him; she will attempt to find Piscarys soul and join it to his body to see if it can be done but after that she is off the hook...Cormel agrees. Rachel and Trent are then set with the task of frantically trying to a way to bind souls back to the vampires. Strangely the elf Landen is willing to assist them, he hopes that joining the vampires with their souls will cause them all to commit sunicide (willingly walk into the sun). As per usual this isnt the only crazy stuff going and with all this playing around with souls the very magic of the world could be at risk.

Rachel has come so far from the first book. She is so much more capable and mature than she was in earlier books. The only thing I didnt really enjoy about this book was Rachels somewhat overdone insecurities about Trent. I mean Trent obviously loves her and would move the world for her. We saw that in the last book and we see it more in this book. I kept wishing Rachel would just get over herself already. Rachel does step up to the challenge though and does some awesome things in this book. She is finally learning to use her friends for support.

Trent is awesome in this book as well. He is not only supportive and respectful of Rachel but he also does some awesome magic (who knew Trent was so powerful?) and is darn sexy too. You see a lot more of him as a father in this book too with his two elven kids (one his by blood and the other his by adoption).

In fact all of the characters are awesome. They have all grown so much. Ivy has found an excellent partner in Nina. I also enjoyed the parts with the demons Al and Newt.

The plot is very well done. We learn a lot more about the elven mystics, demonic magic, and the ley lines. We also learn a ton more about the curse the elves put upon the demons. Theres a lot of other drama woven in with the main plot, but it all comes together to make an excellent story.

Overall this is one of the best urban fantasy series out there. While I was sad to see it end, I was happy that it ended like it did. There is a lot of hope and happiness at the end. I look forward to future series that Harrison writes and hopes she is considering doing more stories in this intriguing world at some point. Finishing this book just made me want to go back and read the whole series all over again! This whole series is recommended to those who love urban fantasy.

This was a huge finale. So much going on. The gang is all present and accounted for except for Belle. She's mentioned, but has no "screen" time.
My main issue was with Rachel. She's less angsty in this one, but still believed she was not good enough for Trent. Oh please, just stop it. I wanted to smack her. (Can I? Please?!) I felt it took her to the end of the book to wake up. Ignore that flaw, and it's a good finale.

The final book of the series, the title seem to not fit anywhere into the plot of this book. Its long and detailed & almost 500 pages. there is a lot of action and magic and it was a good read. I did not appreciate Rachel's plague of insecurity that kept cropping up in the entire story, that didn't fit with her ass kicking persona. There are also a lot of holes in the plot, and my constant question about the chrysalis (why was it important to save) was never answered, the investigation of their church being blown up, well lots of unfinished story lines... but many others were completed. This series reminded me a lot of the Star Trek movies some of them were good some were mediocre I wonder if this author had some readers talk to her so that she could have made this final book better?.

This book is a major disappointment as a ending to a otherwise great series. I had a hard time finishing it. I had to keep telling myself "it would get better", half way through the book I would tell myself that "you read the series you have to finish to see how it ends, 75% through it I was telling myself" you read over half the book you can finish it just keep reading". Thankfully it started to pick up then but for the most part the book was just boring!!! OMG the whining Rachel did ALL through he book! I was starting to route for the bad guys to kill her just so she would stop whining about everything being her fault and how she wasn't good enough for him. SERIOUSLY! Does she not remember all the things he tried or did to her? I mean he turned her into a animal and kept her in a cage for what 2 years I think. Tried to kill her more then once. Stole her memories here and there. And lets not forget he has committed murder, theft, been a drug pusher and more. He's not a saint! And she's worried about not being good enough for him??? Am I the only one who was hoping for a serious discussion between the Trent and Rachel about their past leading up to them finally telling each other of their love for each other? I mean come on he did a lot to her and she to him don't you think some mention of it would have been nice. I mean they both have a lot of baggage there. I would have also liked Rachel to have voiced her feeling to AL and him, his for her. There was no growth between any of the characters. In fact many of them took major steps back and didn't feel like the same characters anymore.

I was also left with questions about the story - How did Newt become the goddess? What became of the everafter? How did Ivy become head of the IS along with Nina?

As for the jumping ahead 25 year that was just lame. I liked that Trent wanted to have a baby with her and get married and all but the rest was just a waist of words.

Over all the book was just a major disappointment. I wish I hadn't wasted my money of getting a signed first edition. It wasn't worth it.
