This is a rather twisted Gothic Romance. It keeps you guessing the whole time who is hampering the heroine's quest to know who her real father really is. The ending is a surprise and I never guessed how the events would unfold.
This is not your typical Cinderella story. The beginning of the book reveals the harsh side of being an orphan during 1800's England. The heroine does not realize her eventual happiness until the end of the novel. But I honestly couldn't put the book down.
After her father's death, Olivia Drummond accepted her uncle's invitation to return to Dunmoore, where she spent her childhood summers. But the castle had become a crumbling shell, and the chivalrous prince--her cousin Alex--was a brooding, tormented stranger. A paralyzing fear enveloped Olivia--fear that she was a helpless pawn in a secret conspiracy...A great read! Kept me hooked to the end!
I was very disappointed in this story. It was too long and unbelievable! The heroine, supposedly educated, believed the most unbelievable things. Too naive by half! And the romance was simply sex and more sex - very explicit. Not to my taste at all!
This was a nice change from the Zebra Gothic Romances! The story takes place in the late 1800's in what is now the state of Florida. I appreciated the moral tones of this book about a minister's niece who finds herself in the middle of a family in crisis along with some intrigue and danger! A good read!
Daughters of Ardmore Hall is a disturbing head case novel. It explores the tormented thoughts and emotions of a young woman who can't decide what it is she wants out of life all the while she is engaged in a mysterious exercise of escaping her demons!
Sarah Campbell's quiet life as a college instructor in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains is shattered when a stranger arrives in town and begins asking her questions about her aunt who died fifteen years earlier.
Orphaned at an early age, Esma Drake had long relied on the kindness of others. Thus, when she was asked to act as a nurse and companion to fragile young Alisette Nikolai, Esma readily accepted the offer. Her arrival at Sea Cliff House, however, filled her with sudden dread as she saw the mansion's perch high atop the sea cliffs. Would she never escape the frightening memories and the lonely sound of the pounding, roiling surf?
This is a classic Gothic Novel with lots of mystery, intrigue and plot twists!
