This book is not a cozy per terms of language, sexual content, etc.
Editor fell asleep and let two inconsistencies remain. One is Dixie walking a dog she is pet sitting, yet she 'parks' behind a vehicle once she arrives and walks to a car window. Parks what?
There are words that appear to be thrown into the story to garner it PG-13 or R rating as if it were a movie trying to appeal to a wider audience. I saw no good reason to drop in a description of her deli lunch pickle, nor the way the AC cooled her down earlier. It felt like someone said, you must add this, it'll spice it up. It did not. Or someone edited out bunches of that, in which case, I'm even less impressed.
The cat information seemed like little helpful tips, and the story did appear to be about a woman finally coming to terms with the loss of her husband and daughter in a positive way.
I was not impressed overall and would not spend a PBS credit to get another book by this author.

While I was not bored with the story, and have not read books one and two, I did find that the mistake in storyline distracting.
The main character takes a hot shower, immediately followed by her musing about the benefits of a steam bath or whirlpool bath, and then takes a short shower, gets dressed and departs. If it's a rewrite forced by an editor why did no one go back and check this?
This bothers me that these type of mistakes gets published. Doesn't anybody read this before it is sent for printing? Is there an entire lack of editing besides typographical errors and incorrect speech, punctuation and lack of fact checking?

While I normally like murder mysteries and historical or science fantasy books, I do read romances once in a while, and historical romantic sagas.
I liked the parallel stories in this romance, and that the characters had to work on their relationships. It wasn't just a meetup at a bar or dance hall or coworkers falling in love.
I enjoyed the family of the cowboy, and I do want to know what happened to his sisters.
As a supporter of small, local business, I liked that the characters did work for or own their own. The book wasn't about huge chain stores or a diatribe on shopping local, it was subtle inclusion that I liked.
