50 Graphic Organizers for Reading, Writing More (Grades 4-8)
Review Date: 3/16/2015

I am a homeschool mother of 5. I borrowed this book from a friend, and quickly realized I needed to have my own copy because the graphic organizers were not only appropriate for my spatial, visual, and analytical children, but they were also very useful for organizing our homeschool year! I don't use them all, but several I use all the time.

This is such a fun read-aloud and should be a classic like its' sister book THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER. The Herdmans are back stealing candy and terrorizing the school kids, but inadvertently pull off the biggest and best Halloween Trick AND Treat of the century! I laughed and laughed, and then spent the rest of the day trying to figure out how such a trick could be duplicated.

This primarily needs to be done with a teacher because almost half of the directions are teacher-led. I was hoping for something more independent like Ellie Weiler's FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS, but the independent work is good for these ages.

Based on history, GENTLE ANNIE reveals the spunk and courage it took to volunteer as a nurse during the Civil War. Not only does the author show the mixture of emotions in families of soldiers but also the great compassion and humanity of those in the roles of nurses to the troops as they realize one side looks exactly like the other when dying on the battlefield. She does a good job at pointing out in an age-appropriate way that some battles must be fought. I intended this book to be for my daughter, but it will also work well for my son, giving a completely different perspective than most Civil War books.

Similar to other titles in the series, this is a solid curriculum for the book. It gives plenty of ideas and options and met my expectations.

It's a surprising example of Rick Riordan's writing. I just don't know much about the Norse gods. A whole new cast of characters with some old ones thrown in there too.

So much fun to learn about what children were like in Elizabethan England! Authentic research went into the writing of this book and makes it an excellent addition to learning about the time period for any elementary student.
