This book has a selection of craft, decorating, quilting and recipe ideas based on the 12 days of Christmas song. There is a wonderful French Hen teapot cozy, six geese a laying quilt, lady's lounging robe and slippers patterns and many many more. Also, recipes for mushroom soup, roasted game hen with sweet potato stuffing, morning glory muffins, Christmas breakfast sausage,florentine cookies and several more. Lots of illustations and patterns make this a wonderful book for the creative person.

This book starts off a little slow and is somewhat predictable. Still, it does portray some of the challenges mid-life women face fairly accurately and somewhat humorously.

I especially enjoyed reading this book from a father's perspective about sharing the teenage years with his daughter. Throughout the book, he also reflects back on his times of growing up with his father and the "mountains" he climbed with his dad. He learned both practical and spiritual applications from those years, which he passes on to both the reader and his daughter. The book begins with his 15-year old daughter, announcing she wants to climb a mountain. Throughout the book, father and daughter do climb mountains as well as run marathons together. The adventures were all unique and both father and daughter learned lessons that last a life time and create a special bond between them.

This is my first book by this author--I will definitely be adding her other books to my wish list after reading this one. I enjoyed the storyline and seeing how God worked in the characters' lives. I couldn't put it down. It seemed real and believable and left me thinking about my own faith journey. It also left me wanting more of these highly likeable characters. I highly recommend this one.

I'm a mid-life woman who has let some friendships go while working and raising my son, as well as other life challenges. I could relate to several of Lisa's struggles. She is real and honest in sharing her journey to better friendships. The appendix offers some good suggestions for making new friends and enhancing older friendships. I recommend this book for any Christian woman hoping to build/enhance friendships. Lisa is a Woman of Faith speaker and this book is published by a Christian publisher so faith is a key component of the book as well.

This book is geared for children ages 5 to 9 to read or be read to. There are 100 short devotionals to help kids grow in their faith as they are going up physically. Each devotional includes a Bible verse, thoughts to grow on, and something to do today with what the kids have learned. Also, each day includes a real amazing fact about something in the world.

I will admit up front that I have a weakness for Scottish romance novels and have been anxious to read this one. Heart of the Highlands by Heidi Kimball lived up to my expectations and I truly enjoyed it. I read it in less than 24 hours!
Collum Darrington, future Duke of Edinbane, was not happy to have an arranged marriage to Lady Katherine. He reluctantly agrees to the wedding but still seethes at the control his father has over him. However, once he meets her, he truly likes Lady Katherine (Katie). Then his father deceives him and Collum lashes out at him and heartbreak abounds in his wake. Then four years later, Collum tries to put the pieces of his life and his marriage back together. Can it be done?
I truly liked both Collum and Katie in spite of both of their flaws and weaknesses. They did feel like real people. I loved the humorous banter that Collum could dish out. While this book made me chuckle at some of his antics, I also felt their heart break and teared up in a few places as well. Kimball's writing definitely brought out all the feels. The situation was complex and l I liked how things worked out in layers. Both people seemed to work through the situations they were in. I liked how loved ones for both parties were protective of them and yet encouraging of the relationship. And the romantic parts were truly swoon worthy. I can't imagine trying to work through the challenges this couple worked through in Heart of the Highlands but I definitely felt for the characters and I was pulling for them all.

If you have ever been faced with a serious health issue, you may have struggled with our Western health care system and wondered what else would be the most helpful to heal from whatever it is that you are facing.
How Healing Works by Wayne Jonas, MD, is an interesting read for those who want to find healing for themselves or for those who are interested in health care in general. Jonas divides this book into three sections: Rethinking Healing, The Dimensions of Healing, and Your Healing Journey. He also includes appendices for additional resources to help on your personal healing journey. Jonas shares a lot of people's case studies throughout the book, including that of his wife. He also shares how he used research to learn how healing works--and how healing can't always be measured but that doesn't mean it won't work. He tells stories of those who were clearly healed in spite of methods that couldn't be quantified. Dr. Jonas initially comes at the research and case studies as a skeptic and studies healing practices from all angles. However, he also shares how we are more than just bodies of chemicals and cells and to get the best healing, a patient and physician need to factor in the whole body of mind, spirit, and environment, along with the body. In the end, he encourages you to create your own integrative medicine approach if there isn't an integrative health clinic in the area. He has extra helps in the appendices designed to use as a patient either alone or with your doctor. He encourages readers to give a copy of the book to their doctor too if they can't get their doctor to look at their case holistically. Dr. Jonas is a well-educated doctor with over forty years of experience in health care.
I found How Healing Works to be a fascinating read. I liked Jonas style. He writes in such a way that a layman can easily understand what he is saying. Yet, he presents each case study and type of healing with a sort of "prove it to me" attitude. I have felt for some time that we need this kind of true health-care reform in our country that Jonas talks about in How Healing Works. Some of what he shares wasn't new to me because I read a lot of alternative and integrative health care related books, but I also learned some new things in this book and gained a better handle on creating my own integrative health care plan as there isn't a good integrative clinic in my area. I truly wish we had an integrative health care system somewhere in my area that looked at each person holistically like Jonas suggests, instead of the standard Western health care model. I would recommend How Healing Works to everyone with an interest in health care, whether as a patient, advocate for a patient or a health care worker.

The sub-title of this book is "More Favorite REcipes from 4-H Families and Friends. It has 162 pages of recipes that include Hot Chicken Salad, kolaches, chicken enchiladas, million dollar bars, Bishop's chocolate pie and many other recipes. It has a lot of good basic recipes in it to eat with your family or take to potlucks. The binding is a plastic comb.

I've read several of Nancy Moser's books and loved them all. She is a writer that weaves a powerful story that makes you think about how God is working in your own life. This one was no exception. I enjoyed seeing how the characters interacted, the lessons they learned and getting involved in their lives. By the end of the book these characters felt real to me. I highly recommend it.

Shortly before I got this book, I went through the Breaking Free Bible study from Beth Moore. For me, this little book was a real help in keeping up the "freedom" I had gained through the study. But it is a great little book to read on your own, without the background of any other Beth Moore books, to help you through the challenges you may face and to keep holding on to Christ in the midst of them. The sections are short and there are helps in the back to easily refer to something to help any struggle. As an added bonus, I thought the nature images on the pages were beautiful.

Five years ago I read and reviewed Love Does by Bob Goff. Bob inspired me to show love in action because Bob is an action-oriented guy. However, Bob's wife, Maria, says she is quieter and shows love differently than Bob. In Love Lives Here by Maria Goff she shares a series of essays from her life that share how they navigate their family life, love God, love each other, and love others well, using their differences to love differently.
Overall, I most enjoyed how "real" Maria was in sharing her stories in Love Lives Here. Some stories are happy and some are not, but they are all part of what make up Maria's life, who she is, and how she shares love with those around her as she serves God daily from a place of quiet steadfastness, often at home. One of the points that struck me most in her writing was how we all have value (stay at home moms too!) and we do not have to all be alike. She and Bob are very different in personalities but she shares how they both minister to those around them but they do it differently. She shares how they both add value to their marriage and to others. What an important message we all need in our world today with so many voices around us! Maria is a wife and mom who makes a difference in what she does each day. She gave me hope as I follow in her shoes living the life of a wife and mom, a life that is no less important than my husband's life even though they do not look entirely the same.
I would encourage you to read Maria's book, Love Lives Here, and think about how your own life is meaningful and how you relate to others around you. I think you will then be encouraged to love on those all around you.

This book should not only be categorized in the travel section but in the cookbook section as well. It is full of wonderful tea room recipes such as: Swedish Fruit Soup, peanut butter chocolate truffles, gourmet french toast, mosaic sandwiches, Queen Mother's cake and many more recipes to have with tea at all times of the day.
Tea rooms from Illinois, Wisconisin, Iowa and Indiana are all featured. However, not all of the tea rooms are still in business but the recipes along with the information about serving teas and tea menus are definately worth garnering the book for if you have tea interests.

This book was light and fun and moved quickly. I thoroughly enjoyed the read from beginning to end. Jessie is single, romantic and wanting to get married. As the title suggests, she has watched lots of friends get married and been a bridesmaid 11 times!She wants to be a bride so badly that she even tries speed dating. When God shows up in the flesh, she gets to actually talk to Him about her dreams. Will she keep dreaming the same dreams in the same way or let God help her move into new paths?

I expected that this book would offer more hope than it did. I found her story to be pretty sad and somewhat depressing to read. However, she did plug along through the challenges in her life and she did turn to God through them and continued to walk with Him, which was good.

This book has challenged me to live life differently after reading it. . .Ann Voskamp shares snippets of her life in a series of essays. The first couple echo her hurting heart and the rest offer pieces of how she changed spiritually through another's dare to give thanks for 1000 gifts. Ultimately her list of God-given gifts turns into better relationships, especially with the Giver of those gifts, and continuing a lifetime of giving thanks.
Even in facing her life's challenges, her prose is beautiful. This is one I have to keep; this is one to re-read as I make my own list of 1,000 gifts. I highly recommend it. Also, it is a Christian book and faith in Christ is a key component of this book.

I appreciate Bill Hybels' down-to-earth style and found this to be a quick read. I could easily relate to the stories he shared from his life about how God spoke to him as well as stories of other Christian's whispers from God that he sprinkled through the book. Hybels also helps you sort out criteria to use for knowing whether God is speaking to you and some of the ways God uses to speak to you. I found it to be a helpful tool for growing in my Christian walk and would encourage every Christian to read it.

I got this book in the mail and started reading it almost immediately and could not leave it alone until it was done about 24 hours later. I easily fell into living with the characters in Echo, Florida, feeling like I was right amongst them seeing and feeling what was going on in the story through River Jordan's lyrical prose. Ever since her husband died, Velma True has been living a life of seclusion. Then a stranger appears with an unusual birthday gift that opens up a new world to her. This book touched me with some truths resonating with my own life. It is different, though, than any other Christian fiction book I've read. Everything isn't always pure and neat and tidy, which adds a sense of realness to this plot that has an otherworldly element to it.

I really enjoyed this read and finished it quickly. Linda, the main character, faces real-life issues as a mid-life woman. She seems like a real person in that she sometimes handles things well and sometimes she learns some things from God in the midst of her struggles with her family, friends and co-workers. Linda seems to live like most of us trying to live the Christian life. Megan DiMaria did do a wonderful job of writing this novel.

This is the 3rd book in the Snow series. I didn't realize there were 4 books when I started it and was very glad to continue reading about the characters. It is very down-to-earth with some good life lessons woven in.
