odd, stilted, not by any means my favorite James, and I am a Henry James fan. This does not hold a candle to Portrait of a Lady, Golden Bowl, The Ambassadors, Washington Square, What Maisie Knew -- the list goes on and on.

interesting, but not my favorite Carr -- I prefer the ones that are not historical, and have either Merrivale or Fell.

interesting at times, somewhat stilted; it's obvious that it's been put together by two writers, sort of like grafting a giraffe's head onto an elephant's body, but if you like both Ford and Conrad (and I do) worth persevering through.

do you really need a review of what is one of Shakespeare's most haunting works, the only one for which a source has never been found, with the amazing "Deeper than ever plummet sounded, I drown my book" speech. A work of the greatest English playwright's maturity, reflexive on the act of creation.
