The Girls Who Went Away : The Hidden History of Women Who Surrendered Children for Adoption in the Decades Before Roe v. Wade
Review Date: 9/30/2009
Helpful Score: 2

True stories about the women who were forced to give up babies for adoption prior to legalized abortion. It tells of the pain they suffered, the hopes of being reunited, and emotions of finding their child years later.
The author did a wonderful job of framing the stories by detailing a social or cultural aspect of giving a child up.

Should be required reading for any woman under the age of 40.

Outwitting the Gestapo
Review Date: 3/30/2011

This book details one woman's story of love and Resistance in France during World War II. It is not a love story, but rather a story about the love of a married couple, both actively resisting the Nazis.

Written as a first hand account, the book shows the struggles of a wife and mother fighting to free her country from oppression.

An interesting, inside look to Iran through the eyes of 1 teacher and her female students. It is helpful to know something about the books mentioned, but not required. A lover of literature and of good writing will find this book a worthwhile read.

Simple Justice : The History of Brown v. Board of Education and Black America's Struggle for Equality
Review Date: 10/12/2006

Thought provoking. Provides a history of racial segregation in the US from slavery until the landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision in 1954. I have the 2004 edition which has made a few editions to account for the 30 years since the book was originally written.
