"...unconventional arrangement allowed Sheridan's parents to maintain their marriage for over 50 years. To Sheridan's credit, he sought out Doris after his father's death to learn the truth. The story he found is related in this moving account of the lives of his father, his mother, and Doris. Recommended for...Irish collections." amazon
Rookie FBI agent Mark Putnam...began cultivating informants and pursuing bank robbers and chop shop operators. One of his informants, Susan Smith, an attractive drug user with connections among the rural underworld, was one of the most useful and one of the most troublesome. Becoming emotionally (and financially) dependent on Putnam, she began to inject herself into his personal life, finally taking advantage of Putnam's troubled marriage and seducing him.
This tangle of motives and loyalties ultimately led to a confrontation...Allegedly...he responded in the heat of the moment by strangling her. Sharkey makes both this scenario and Putnam's subsequent actions to cover up the crime psychologically believable.
...the force of his story lies in the sharp characterizations, the human drama, and the tragic inevitability of its conclusion. For all popular true crime collections." amazon
Three weeks before her huge formal wedding the bride gets a serious case of cold feet.
"The book is light-hearted, witty, amusing and charming and the surprise ending will please any reader.
It was a quick, fun read; not deep thought-provoking literature, but nonetheless entertaining." amazon review
"...Ozeki takes us to the heart of the potato farming industry. When Yumi Fuller returns to her hometown after a twenty-five-year absence, she comes face to face with an old friend, her aging parents, and her conflicted past...With a quirky cast of characters and a keen eye..."
"The greatest asset of the book is Mr. Stephanopoulos' candor: he does not shy away from criticizing himself and others. Occasionally, he breaks off from the narrative and shares his inner thoughts; those injections add new dimensions to the story, making the book more interesting and enjoyable.
Mr. Stephanopoulos has written more than his experiences in the White House; he has written about what working in the White House did to him: the stress, the dilemmas and the obsession with power. Those interested in politics should give "All Too Human" a careful read." amazon review
This is a pretty good book, and is well-written.
Ii is not the typical true crime book. It does follow a man's descent to crime, his capture and trial, but also his unusual faith and how the Pope became involved.
I loved this book. A very interesting tale about fellow American sport sailors meeting in a distant port; a crime occurs, and it takes years to unravel it all. Nobody writes this king of complex tale any better than Bugliosi.
"The most amazing fact about this volume is that the author declares that he researched this book for 37 years! I have absolutely no doubt about that statement. His sources are endless, and his attention to detail is without pier. And stand back revisionists. He pretty much buries all those approaches and theories with solid scholarship and fact.
This book is amazing!!!
... A remarkable 1 year story leading to the attack that reads easy and fast, with plenty of aside humor, and will be very difficult to put down. Short chapters crammed with information. Perfection is tying together a billion events into a story line that moves ahead to it's target with precision and accruracy. There are vivid descriptions of ships, people, places, occurances, whatever, that are a joy to read. What a writer this guy is!
I find it hard to believe that any of the other books about Pearl Harbor can compare with this volume." amazon review
