A fanciful story, but parts are well researched. If you love civil war history, you will enjoy the details. The writer makes you feel like you are right there in the action, and suspense.

I loved this book, when I read it about 7 years ago, and I kept it on my bookshelf. I love true history stories. Ironically, while doing family research, I discovered that one of my ancestors died in this blizzard, and his body was not found for about 4 months. In the family history book, they refer to this as The Schoolhouse Blizzard. If you like true history, you will enjoy this book.

I really liked this book. It made you think about what happens after a loved one dies, in a non-preachy manner, with a nice family story.

I really enjoyed this book. Written from the point of view of a small boy. It embroils you into the trials of a family eeking out a living of a cotton farm. Mystery, murder, and secrets abound.

When I opened this book, I thought it is going to be dry and technical. I was pleasantly surprised. Lots of details put you in the author's shoes. Very interesting
