Chronicles the author's 20-year odyssey amongst the channels, straits, bays and coves of the Gulf Islands in Georgia Strait off the British Columbia coast. Phillip Teece explores both the masgic of man's fascination with the sea in general and his own almost obsessive attraction to this particular island labyrinth.

Sailing both single-handed and without the aid of an engine, Teece has examined every nook & cranny of his home waters, in the process proving that you don't have to head for the open seas to find excitement and adventure afloat.

A Dream of Islands is illustrated with the author's evocative pen-and-ink sketches.

Alexandra Morton is an internationally known whale researcher familiar to everyone interested in the west coast. Billy Proctor was born in the Broughton Archipelago, and has spent his life doing the time-honored work of upcoast men-fishing, hand-logging, beachcombing. One day, he realized that the coast he loved was dying around him and understood that it was time to put something back .Heart of the Raincoast is the story of Billy Proctor's life, and the life of the coast he knows so well, once so rich, now so threatened.
---
The responsible existence within our environment equates to actually having an environment that one wishes to live in. Billy Proctor's story, or rather, chronicles of his existence (and family, relatives and friends) of off the West Coast of British Columbia, Canada and how it has changed over the last 50 years inspires one to start treating our environment with respect and courtesy.
It is a harsh, unforgiving and yet tranquil look upon what has been described as one of the most beautiful and diverse coastlines in the world. Once capable of supporting those who lived upon and around it, and used its bounty with skill. Technology, visitors and a lack of vision have poached upon it, to the brink of extinction of many of its species.

To love where you are, the majesty of your surroundings, and witness its potentially irreversible destruction.

It is a grand book about a grand place, that may be, shortly, changed forever.

Working Women: An Appealing Look at the Appalling Uses and Abuses of the Feminine Form
Review Date: 6/15/2009

Published by Harry N. Abrams, in 200 color photographs photographer Jessica Stang explores the use of the female form as kitsch, artifact or art form performing a function; from nutcrackers, door knockers, salt & pepper shakers, teapots, to door handles.

From book introduction by Lorraine Johnson, March 1984:

"The author as a woman, feminist and photographer was overwhelmed by the ubiquity and variety of the representations of the female form. Most of these Working Women were probably conceived, designed and/or manufactured by men. Why didn't they choose to exploit the male form instead? Is it simply that the "opposite" sex, with its curves, is intrinsically more decorative or is there some deeper, more sinister reason for subjecting women to such treatment?

Perhaps we can only wonder at the places where men's minds go, knowing that a "woman's work is never done." ...Whatever conclusion is reached...it is an eye-opener for all to see just how many everyday objects we take for granted, even when they have one overwhemling theme in common."
