Blue Highways: A Journey Into America (Travel Trilogy, Bk 1)
Review Date: 1/9/2010
Helpful Score: 4

I love the back roads and enjoyed reading this classic tale. The good thing about the story, it is really a series of short stories and you can read it at any pace that you want, but then it also lacks an overall plot, which is probably typical of a travel log such as this. The real beauty of the tale is how you feel that you are right there with Least Heat Moon in the passengers seat.

He's boldly challenging the Popularity Politics that have been ebbing away at our freedoms.

Old Bug: The Spiritual Quest of a Skeptical Guy on a Road Trip Across America with a Long Lost Friend in a Beat-Up Beetle
Review Date: 3/23/2010
Helpful Score: 1

This book is full of great insight. This is not your usual travel log with boring turn by turn notes, but a story that unfolds inside and outside of the author's head.

The fact that the trip is taken in an old VW bug is intriguing in of itself, but the view points of our present day society are interesting and require pause to assess your own situation.

If you are firmly planted in your religious beliefs; You may not like this book.

Definitely a great read.

Nice and easy read with chapter length short stories.

There is plenty of salty sea sailing terms to emerse you in the sailing world.

Entertaining and lessons learned all in one.
