I felt American Gods was well written and I loved the concept - What happens to gods when people no longer believe in them? Maybe I was expecting too much as this was my first Gaiman novel and I had heard rave things about his writings, but I found it lacking. I felt the gods could have had more dimension. Overall, not a bad book, but I was disappointed.

I enjoyed his previous book, Drood, and was excited to get this one. I was so bored! I broke my cardinal rule and requested the unabridged version, and found it to be needlessly wordy. I did not like the pace of the book either. It would go back and forth between time periods when it would have been much better if presented in "real-time" I actually misplaced the last 3 discs and didn't bother to look for them as I really didn't care what happened and because of the time jumps, i already knew the character would get through this particular peril, unscathed.

Boring and poorly written. Lot of repetition - like she used cut and past to put it together and forgot some parts and added some parts several times. Read the first 43 pages, then the end and don't feel like a missed a thing - except the time it took me to read that much.

I heard rave reviews about this book but I was very disappointed. I really didn't like the mom, and the story - as told by the 5 year old - did not ring true. This child was supposed to be very bright for a 5 year old, yet his speech was worse than my three year old granddaughter's.
