Written under the pseudonym Hunt Collins, "Cut Me In" is early McBain. No 87th Precinct detectives. Instead, a page-turner story of murder in New York's 1950's world of publishing agents.

Perez-Reverte continues his excellent Captain Alatriste series with "Pirates of the Levant."

Two treasure/bounty hunters learn one of their prisoners knows about buried treasure in the desert outside Yuma, AZ. Corrupt jailers, bandits and denizens of a traveling medicine show also know. There is lots of double crossing and action as this situation sorts itself out. Imaginative action scenes atypical of Westerns: e.g., shootout on a burning stern wheeler on the Colorado River. A bit of mystery, too: whether or not this alleged treasure really exists.
