A la Carte members:

• have a 100 item Wish List

• must use a Swap Fee (49 cents of PBS Money) or a "Free Swap" (token earned by sending out a shipment with PBS Printable Postage) along with Book Credit(s) when requesting a book shipment

• may read, but may not Post in, Discussion Forums

• may send Personal Messages from active or recent transactions (but not any other way).

If you are not currently enrolled in an Annual Membership, you are already an A la Carte Member! You can continue as ALC, or enroll in an Annual Membership anytime.

• You need do nothing to continue as an A la Carte member.
• If you have PBS Money in your account, it can be used for Swap Fees when you request a book (49 cents per request).
• If you don't have PBS Money in your acount, you can purchase some PBS Money in the Kiosk to use for Swap Fees, and they will be taken when you request books (at the same time the Book credits are taken).  
  • If you plan to use the auto-request feature on the Wish List you should add some PBS Money to your account to cover Swap Fees for any auto-requested Wish List book when it becomes available.
  • Because of the 50-cent flat Kiosk Transaction Fee (which is applied no matter how little or how much is in your Cart for Checkout), most A la Carte members will add about $5. in PBS Money (enough for 10 Swap Fees) -- that way they pay the Kiosk Fee only once every 10 requests.
• If you have Free Swaps in your account (from a previous Limited Membership, or earned by sending books with Printable Postage), you can use those instead of PBS Money when you request books with Book Credits.

If you ARE currently enrolled in an Annual Membership:

• When your Annual Membership expires, your membership status will become A la Carte automatically if you don't re-enroll.
• If your Annual Membership expires and you continue as an A la Carte member, the changes will be:
  • your Wish List will be cut to 100 items (the most recently-added wishes will be removed)
  • You will not be able to post in Discussion Forums, and your Personal Messaging will be limited to PMs from an active or recent transaction, or PMs to Tour Guides.
