I cried my eyes out when I saw the movie, which prompted me to read the book. I cried my eyes out again. Such a poignant story. For all the emotion, I never felt that Hosseini was laying it on. Some parts of the story are brutal to read, but it is well crafted. It offers insight into a place (Afghanistan) that most of us only know from recent headlines. It has motivated me to learn more about Afghanistan, its history and cultures.
