A wonderful, wonderful book. I had a lot of trouble deciding if I wanted to keep this book or post it! Very moving, an interesting glimpse into the life of an upper-class family in Afghanistan removed from grace after the fall of the Afghanistan monarch in the '70s. As they rebuild their lives in America, memories of the priveledged past conflict with a present that includes working-class jobs, flea markets, and the father's battle with cancer. However, the book's main theme deals with the narrator's ever-present struggle to win his father's love and respect, and the trials he endures while trying to do so.
