It is what it is - an old fashioned adventure story with a terrific hero and great action.

In this, the 19th Dirk Pitt novel, our hero is nearly killed rescuing an oil survey team on Russia's Lake Baikal in what seems to be a simple act of nature. However, when the survey team is abducted and Pitt's research vessel is nearly sunk, it's obvious there's something more sinister involved. All trails lead to Mongolia, and a mysterious mogul who is conducting covert deals for the Chinese while wreaking havor on global oil markets by utilizing a secret technology. The Mongolian dreams of restoring Genghis Khan's empire - and holds a dark secret that just might give him the wealth and power to turn his dream into a global nightmare.
